We are always saying how we need more time, more time in the day to finish projects, more time to spend with family, more time for everything! Someone asked me yesterday where I find the time to craft and run a business on top of my already crazy schedule. I said to them simply put “ I make the time, because if it is something that is important to me or that I enjoy I have the option to make the time by getting up before the rest of the world does” their response was one that I am used to “ So you’re one of THOSE people”, yup my dear I sure am and honestly I wouldn’t change it and I will explain why.
It all started a few years ago shortly after I had my daughter, I wasn’t into crafting yet but I was majorly involved in fitness, I was coaching, doing daily workouts and really watching my nutrition (yup again one of THOSE people), I spent a ton of time throughout my normal day and most of my evenings working on coaching plans, meal prep and finally at the end of my day getting my workout done while attending a newborn and a 5 year old (this is one of the most difficult tasks I have ever had to do believe it or not and it got worse as she started to crawl). I was getting very frustrated that I had to keep pausing to take care of them and that I was missing the little time I got to sit with the hubs, the frustrations weren’t towards them it was that I was taking the time AWAY from them in order to get a workout in and that made me feel like #worstmomever and very selfish. So I started setting my alarm back 30 minutes a day for a week at a time until I got to the point of having ample time to workout and still be able to enjoy my morning routine without any interference. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t easy and there were many mornings where my not so great sleeper decided she wanted to workout with mommy (cute right?) but eventually it was easy, I was able to catch up on laundry or do the dishes, all the things I opted out of doing the day before because I knew I’d have the time in the morning so I spent it with the family!
Now how this plays into me having time to craft, well I start my mornings earlier! Sometimes I am up at 3:30-3:45am ( I know you think I am crazy and that’s ok!) But this allows me time to think, relax, drink preworkout, craft, record my videos, write blogs, do laundry AND still be able to workout! The best part of all of this, I am able to become a morning person before I have to people! My kids will agree that mommy is waaaayyyy nicer in the morning when she’s had “her time”. This time that I gave myself doesn’t take away from anything I enjoy doing, sure I miss out on some extra zzz’s but the reality is that I wasn’t sleeping well before I started this routine so I am actually getting the same amount and what my body needs, which is roughly 6-7 hours a night through the week and about 8-9 on the weekends and it works for me. Having this time to create the awesome products that I do is a need for me, once you make something a need you go the lengths it takes to create the time for it.
